| Bio: | ![]() Character Name: Patrick Ashford Character Journal: adorkable_ash Age/Birthdate: November 17 House/Year: 7th Year Hufflepuff Wand: ash with unicorn hair core, pliable Bloodline: half-blood Why were they sorted into this House? The Sorting Hat had some difficulty placing Patrick. Initially it saw his mischievious nature and almost placed him in Gryffindor. But it thought better of it realizing that his sense of loyalty and artistic nature were his dominate personality traits. And those traits landed him happily in Hufflepuff. Physical Description. Patrick is of medium height and lanky build. The thing that you usually notice first about him is his smile. He has this sly smile that makes you want to follow him in whatever it is that he's planned. His mother teases him that its a good thing that he uses his powers for good instead of evil. And it's true...most of the time. He has bright blue eyes and light brown hair which he wears long and is often hanging his his face. When he's embarrassed (which does happen though not terribly often) he tends to use it as a bit of a shield. He tends to favor simple clothing over following trends so usually he's found in jeans, T-shirts and trainers. Though it does have to be admitted that he cleans up rather well. PB: Trent Ford http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1807816656/photo/459379 http://www.imdb.com/media/rm638556672/nm0285913 Sexual Orientation: heterosexual...except for that one time...he thinks Personality: Patrick is effusive, wryly funny and very artistic. He's also lazy and lives a bit too much in his head. Homework is rarely on his priority list which makes a goodly number of people think that he's not overyly bright. But the truth is that he's smart and, if you asked him the right questions, he might just come off sounding like a Ravenclaw. He just doesn't really see the point in studying when there are so many other things he could be doing. And since he knows that he'll probably end up working in his mum's book shop or as an artist he isn't worried about his marks affecting his future job. Add to his lack of motivation his tendency to daydream and you have a teacher's nightmare. Sometimes you can look at Patrick and it's like he isn't really there, and you're pretty much correct. He spends a lot of time thinking. About his art. About which ever girl he's currently infatuated with. Whether or not he'll be able to talk James into or out of something. It's fairly common for people to say his name two or three times before he responds. And even then he'll often look at them blankly and ask them why they had to shout. He loves being part of jokes and pranks and will usually be the one who's fully participating but reminding everyone of what kind of trouble they could get in if things go awry. He will also speak up if he thinks a joke or a prank has gone too far. He's all for fun and silliness but draws the line at anything that could truly hurt someone, mentally or physically. More than once he's stopped James (or whoever else they were conspiring with) from doing something dangerous because something set off the alarms in his head. James generally pouts but goes along with Patrick because even James knows that Patrick is his moral compass. And if that doesn't work he distracts them with a less hurtful, if just as fun, idea. Patrick sees pranks as something that should do two things; bring people together and make them laugh. Because those are both important things to him and two of the main reasons he sorted Hufflepuff and not Gryffindor. People generally like Patrick because he doesn't seem to have a mean bone in his body. Which helps when they see his laughing blue eyes were behind whatever mischief he's managed to find himself in. His art is his gift and like many so gifted Patrick tends to be a bit...inflexible when it comes to his craft. He feels that his insticts are never wrong, even when it's plain that they either are or he should simply keep his mouth shut about them. Which usually causes his stubborn streak to show (though sometimes it seems that it takes nothing to make his stubborn streak show) because he won't back down. In fact, once he makes his mind up about something its nearly impossible to make him move from his initial opinion. The reasoned arguments that might work for some pretty much roll off of him like water off a duck's back. Basically there are two ways to convince him, the figurative frying pan upside the head method or the sigularly effective, make James talk him into it method. Which only works sometimes since he seems to be the only person immune to his best friend's charm. And even he can't claim complete immunity. Family: Mother: Patricia Stimpson. For as long as Patrick can remember it's just been him and his mom. Because of this he's extremely close to her. It's always basically been them against the world in his eyes. Their relationship is unusual in that she never really treated Patrick as a child. She spoke to him as an adult and expected him to be able to do the same. Even when he was very young he was given small responsibilities both at home and at the shop. At first it was simple things like dusting and sweeping but as he got older they grew to the point that many see him as his mother's equal partner in the book shop when he's home. Patricia owns a small bookstore/coffee shop on Diagon Alley and some of Patrick's best memories are of days spent there with her. Patrick is the first to tell you that his mother taught him most of the life lessons he's lived by but the most important thing that she's given him is trust. She trusts him to untilmately make good decisions and to follow his conscience in all matters. Which may explain why he's willing to speak up when he feels that he needs to. Father: David Ashford. Patrick likes his father. David is a likable guy. But he hasn't really been what anyone would call a father. Because of Patricia's insistance David has been involved in Patrick's life but only in the most superficial ways. Most of the time David seems to simply be a likable stranger who now infrequently passes in and out of his life. Most of the time Pat is fine with this though sometimes he wonders what it would be like to have a real father. He sees how his friends (especially James) are with their fathers and feels a bit of envy. But he knows that even if he knew his father that David wouldn't be a father like Harry Potter. Personal History: Patricia Stimpson was unlike most Gryffindors in the fact that she tended to think everything through before acting. Everything it seemed except for sleeping with David Ashford the night she met him at a Wizarding club. That had to be the night that the anti-pregnancy charm malfunctioned and he had to be the only wizard who didn't believe that men should also take some responsibility when it comes to protection. The end result was a pregancy that neither particularly wanted with a person neither particularly liked. Though Patricia hadn't planned on becoming a single mother she threw herself into motherhood with determination and a certain amount of flair. No one would ever call her traditional. She comes from a mixed background which makes her always seem different even when she's just like everyone else. Though both parents are magical her mother is an American witch which has definately affected her opinions and attitudes. She's pretty open to the Muggle arts, especially books and music; loves that she has passed on to her son. When Patrick was two his mother opened John and Drogo's a small, rather eccelctic book shop/coffee shop that specializes in imports (Muggle and American both). Much of her time has been spent in the shop which never really bothered Patrick since it was, and still is, his favorite place to be. One of his favorite memories is of curling up on a pile of pillows behind the cash register reading The Little Prince when he was seven. Patricia's two employees have been like surrogate family to Patrick. He always knew that he could go to them if his mother wasn't around. And they were told to be just as firm with him as Patricia would be (though they both found it difficult to be firm with such a sweet child). The year he was seven was significant for one other reason. It was the year he met his best friend, Jamie Potter. It was a couple of days after his seventh birthday and his mother took him to George Weasley's joke shop to spend some of the money he'd received from distant relatives. He was perusing ton tongue toffees when he was nearly run over by a very energetic dark haired boy. As is often the case with children a bond was quickly formed between the boys. And from that point on, whenever James was in the area they would sneak off to get into mischief that only little boys can find themselves in. More than once they accidentally blew things up (usually the rubbish bins behind WWW). Things continued happily for Patrick. He had his mum, who was the best, his family and his friends. Starting Hogwarts was hard because he had to be away from most of his family but at least he still had Jamie. Though largely alike on the surface Pat is certainly the more cautious of the duo and also the one most likely to see the whole picture. This has caused many rather heated arguments between the two they always managed to move past and remain the best of friends. Though that nearly changed the summer between their fourth and fifth years. Jamie was spending several weeks with Pat and his mother and all the time together caused both boys to question some things about their friendship. Pat found himself attracted to a boy for the first (and thus far only time) and, for reasons he still isn't sure of they decided to explore just how far the attraction and feelings went. All it took was a couple of weeks of kissing and touching for Pat realized that, though there was something magnetic about his friend, there was no way that he could start, let alone maintain any kind of relationship with him. Pat believes that Jamie sensed this and ended things quickly. Though James didn't take what he considered rejection well. It took the rest of the summer for Pat to patch things up and he only managed it by convincing James that it was James who couldn't continue the relationship, not Patrick. Neither boy really talks about it though there are moments when it just seems to hang in the air between them. And though Patrick will be the last to admit it there are brief moments when a spark of the old attraction will hit him off guard. But it's never enough to force any kind of issue or self-examination. Pat however does fight with a strange kind of jealousey whenever James gets involved with (or snogs) another boy. Girls never bother Pat, he and James have had more double dates than single by his estimation but the boys bother him. Patrick is now starting to consider his future and is debating between apprenticing with a magical artist or attending Muggle art school. Right now art school is winning. There's something about the static nature of Muggle art that appeals to him more than Wizard art does. He likes the idea that he's catching a moment in time, an emotion or simply an impression but whatever it is he's telling the truth of that moment in his art. Though if you ask him he'll probably tell you that the muggle way is less complicated. Classes: Best: Muggle Studies, History of Magic and Runes (likes theoretical classes over practical ones) Worst: DDA, Potions and Magical Creatures Plans for character: The usual last year of school stuff in deciding what he wants to do next. Some exploration into his family either with his mother's dating or his absent father. Likely both. I'd like to see him in a relationship at some point because I think that he would be a complete dork about it, which would be fun. | |||||||||
